It all began for Melissa and Lana in 1995, working at their first job at a local party store for small business owners Jun and Pilar Dumlao in Vallejo, California. From balloon arrangements and sculptures to flower arrangements and centerpieces, they showed an aptitude and passion for special event décor. Melissa and Lana gained valuable, hands-on experience by going on-site to decorate a wide spectrum of special occasions, such as christenings, birthdays, cotillions, graduations, weddings, grand openings, and business parties. They quickly learned the tricks of the trade, as well as the importance of excellent customer service by understanding what people want and need.

After three years of working together in Vallejo, they went their separate ways to college. Decorating parties, however, still seemed to follow the both of them. In January 2003, they were reunited at San Francisco State University. Realizing that their hobby could be both fun and profitable, the idea of starting their own business came to mind. And so began Melana.

With thousands of balloons inflated, hundreds of flowers carefully cut and arranged, dozens of parties beautifully decorated, and several years of experience behind them, this is only the beginning for Melana.
